it takes a lifetime, but marc jacobs isn’t done.
It’s no secret to anybody that I’m obsessed — obsessed — with Marc Jacobs. Half my wardrobe consists of pieces from his Marc by Marc Jacobs line, and a summer’s worth of work went towards the classic Marc Jacobs “Stam” bag.

Today, Marc Jacobs is receiving the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) Lifetime Achievement award. He joins the ranks of designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and yes, dancer and choreographer Martha Graham. Marc is no stranger to the CFDA Fashion Awards, though. The Council has been recognizing him since as far back as 1987. This year, he has been nominated as Womenswear Designer of the Year, alongside Alexander Wang and the designers behind Proenza Schouler, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough.
Marc credits his success to his own hard work and the dedication of his team.
“I don’t think I’ve had a Memorial Day off in 30 years. We’re all here. The design team’s here, working through Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I’ll go to the gym every morning, but I’ll be here after the gym,” he explained in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily.
Glad you’re staying fit, Marc. Meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t even wash his own hair (“I have someone who comes to the house and washes it, puts in the dry shampoo, and takes care of it because I have no time. I don’t even have time to go to the dentist,” Lagerfeld told W Magazine).
Despite his winning of the top award, the 48-year-old designer and creative director of Louis Vuitton isn’t ready to back away from the industry.
“It’s crazy. I mean, I have a lot more to do. ‘Achievement’ sounds final. I’d like to call it ‘Lifetime of achievement — and for what’s left to achieve,” he said, adding, “I have no intention of slowing down. I don’t rest anyway.”
That’s exactly the response I’d expect from someone who sleeps with Post-it notes and a pen in order to jot down thoughts throughout the night.
Congratulations, Marc. I can’t wait to see what you’ll surprise us with next.
