bbm challenge council: fashion

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been participating in the BBM Challenge, a competition sponsored by BlackBerry to find “protégés” for celebrities in various fields of interest. I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the top 25 finalists — now down to 19 competitors, I’ve been doing photoshoots across campus to win a chance to meet Whitney Port and to experience the world of fashion for a weekend! Above is one of my favorite shots from the past two shoots I’ve done. This week, I’ve created five luxe holiday party looks which include metallics (above), fur (my fave), suede, sheer/lace, silk and more. Check out the rest of my looks and vote for my entry (look for the black and white photo with the Marc Jacobs Stam bag) HERE! It’s an easy one-click vote and you can vote once a day, so your support would be much appreciated :)

a fashionable way to recycle.

The holiday parties have come to a conclusion and that gold dress you wore on New Years is so 2011 — or so you think. Whether you visited your local Forever 21 (find out why I don’t shop there) or hit up Neiman Marcus for those seasonal cocktail dresses, you hate to see a perfectly stunning dress go to waste, so pull those sparkly numbers back out from the depths of your closet — it’s time to get reduce (your spending), reuse (those dresses), and recycle (your style)!

The Gold Sequined Dress

  gold sequin holiday dress

Vince Gold All-Over Sequin Dress, $475. Humanoid Woven Linen Vest, $160. Jeffrey Campbell Rouges Wrap Strap Booties, $250. See By Chloe Leo Party Clutch, $395.

Once upon a time, the holidays were the only time it was acceptable to be a walking disco ball. Here’s your chance to soothe your inner diva year-round! Rough the outfit up in a sleeveless anorak and utilitarian boots. Give shape to the outfit with a studded belt, and to avoid completely hiding the glam, carry a gold-accented clutch.

The Chiffon Maxiholiday party dress

Helmut Lang Orbit Drapped Chiffon Maxi Dress, $595. Robert Rodriguez Double Breasted Blazer, $395. Alejandro Ingelmo ‘Sophia’ Platform Pumps, $250. Proenza Schouler PS1 Satchel, $1,960.

The only thing that hit the floor before you did on New Years Eve was your dazzling maxi dress, and it would have been a shame to put that one away for good. While this isn’t a dress you necessarily want to run errands in, it’s still a winner for a nice brunch or a day out shopping. Tone down the flowy chiffon with a menswear-inspired blazer, which will help hide the draping layers that, while appropriate for a fancy party, aren’t made for the streets. As for the statement bag and heels? Well, let’s be real — such a dress deserves a pair of pumps, but keep it casual with a patent nude, and isn’t a statement purse a necessity every day?

The Little Black Lace Dress

Nicholas Rebecca Chantilly Lace Dress, $330. Helmut Lang Angora Floats Pullover, $460. Free People London Opaque Tights, $12. Mulberry Oxford Flat Shoe in Hedgehog Metallic, $385.

There’s nothing more sexy than a little lace number, which is great for a night out but doesn’t work so well for your every day attire. To tone it down a few notches, layer an oversized sweater over the dress — an asymmetrical one that lets a bit of extra lace peer out here an there maintains an air of seduction. A pair of black tights is classic, and metallic brogues show off taste in a casual shoe. Finish the look with a neutral bag so you’re classy, not flashy.

Anybody else looking forward to taking that party dress out for a second round?
