there’s no such thing as too much glam.

From Marc Jacob’s luxe metallic pants to Michael Kors’ fur coats that would make even a pomeranian yip with jealousy, Fashion Week in New York displayed an impressive array of all things glamorous. Watch out Fall 2011: Looks like I’ll finally be able to wear that gold metallic dress I splurged on at Top Shop for New Year’s more than once.

grandma’s hatboxes may be in the attic, but yours are in the closet — and really, that’s okay.

Anybody who knows me knows I love hats. And for those of you who don’t, remember that no-hats rule we all suffered from kindergarten to senior year of high school? Well, that pent-up obsession shows. Beach hat? Done. Derby hat? Check. Classic fedora? Got it. Witch’s hat to wear as a crazy fan at Universal’s Harry Potter World? …ah, who said we had to get into details?

This summer’s biggest hat trend is the woven straw hat, whether it be a fedora, brim hat or extravagant, wide-brimmed sun hat, complete with a big gauzy bow, of course. Right now, it’s all about bright colors and statement pieces, so yes, you are going for the double-take — you know, like the kind you get when you walk (strut?) down the street in your Alexander McQueen armadillo booties…fine, maybe that’s just Lady Gaga, but a girl can dream, right?

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Henry Gold Watch, $200.

                                          Marc Jacobs Henry Gold Watch

I visited the Marc by Marc Jacobs store on Newbury Street in Boston today — 30% off all shoes, so go if you haven’t already! Unfortunately, they were out of my size in every shoe I wanted, but I didn’t walk out empty-handed! I got a mauve canvas (prepare yourselves) Jacobs by Marc Jacobs for Marc by Marc Jacobs in collaboration with Marc Jacobs for Marc by Marc Jacobs tote. Oh Marc, you are too funny. Loves. I also got a key charm necklace and a leopard-print keychain that is now on my taupe Totally Turnlock Helena tote. The color scheme matches perfectly and I am utterly pleased.

Next up on my list is the watch pictured above. It is even more beautiful in person and is absolutely a must-have! Every season there is always one watch that stands out to me from the MBMJ collection, and this one blows them all out of the water. This watch is reason #48327592384 why an unpaid internship is not sufficient. Anybody hiring?

For more Marc Jacobs love, come back to House of Alice at 10 a.m. EST tomorrow!

it takes a lifetime, but marc jacobs isn’t done.

It’s no secret to anybody that I’m obsessed — obsessed — with Marc Jacobs. Half my wardrobe consists of pieces from his Marc by Marc Jacobs line, and a summer’s worth of work went towards the classic Marc Jacobs “Stam” bag.

Today, Marc Jacobs is receiving the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) Lifetime Achievement award. He joins the ranks of designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and yes, dancer and choreographer Martha Graham. Marc is no stranger to the CFDA Fashion Awards, though. The Council has been recognizing him since as far back as 1987. This year, he has been nominated as Womenswear Designer of the Year, alongside Alexander Wang and the designers behind Proenza Schouler, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough.

Marc credits his success to his own hard work and the dedication of his team.

"I don’t think I’ve had a Memorial Day off in 30 years. We’re all here. The design team’s here, working through Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I’ll go to the gym every morning, but I’ll be here after the gym," he explained in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily.

Glad you’re staying fit, Marc. Meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t even wash his own hair (“I have someone who comes to the house and washes it, puts in the dry shampoo, and takes care of it because I have no time. I don’t even have time to go to the dentist,” Lagerfeld told W Magazine).

Despite his winning of the top award, the 48-year-old designer and creative director of Louis Vuitton isn’t ready to back away from the industry.

"It’s crazy. I mean, I have a lot more to do. ‘Achievement’ sounds final. I’d like to call it ‘Lifetime of achievement — and for what’s left to achieve," he said, adding, "I have no intention of slowing down. I don’t rest anyway."

That’s exactly the response I’d expect from someone who sleeps with Post-it notes and a pen in order to jot down thoughts throughout the night.

Congratulations, Marc. I can’t wait to see what you’ll surprise us with next.

wallet searching.

As a college student, the simpler my life is, the happier I am — I’m all about convenience, especially when it comes to the cavernous Longchamp bag I throw my books, laptop, dance clothing, etc., in before running to class every morning. I won’t go into the never-ending conversation about the lack of compartments (or a zipper to the pocket!) in your typical Longchamp tote — but even when I’m using a nylon Marc by Marc Jacobs cosmetic bag as my pencil case, it’s impossible to find anything in that bag of mine.

So for the past several years, I’ve been using coin purses as a wallet; one with my keys attached, so I can fit everything I need (hello, credit card! hello, cash! hello, keys!) into the palm of my hand.

Naturally, the one I’m using states, “Shoe Fund.” Unnaturally, it’s pink.

It’s time, though, for a change: a real, (grown-up?!) wallet. Here are the ones I’m loving, and please, let me know which one is your fave — or suggest new ones!

see by chloe carmen wallet bloomingdales

See by Chloe Carmen Wallet, $185. I love the color and texture of this wallet, and gold hardware looks great on accessories of all colors. The three bags I carry on a regular basis are grey-blue, black and natural — so this one would be a fantastic fit.

tory burch robinson continental zip wallet nordstrom

Tory Burch ‘Robinson’ Continental Wallet, $225. Look closely — the cross-hatch leather is to die for. Zip-around wallets keep everything where it needs to be, especially when my belongings are being thrown back and forth in my tote. Black (with gold hardware!) matches every color, and hides wear and tear better than other colors do.

marc Jacobs Lindy Deluxe Zip Around Wallet bloomingdales

Marc Jacobs Lindy Deluxe Zip Around Wallet, $450. The color scheme. The gold hardware. The quilted leather. The bow. And it’s a zip-around wallet! On top of all that, anybody who knows me knows I can’t get enough of Marc Jacobs. But with such particular embellishments, will this wallet really stand the test of time?

missing london

It rained today and I ran into some of my study abroad friends earlier which made me miss London. Being able to wear outfits like this to school without it looking out of place is what I loved most about it! (The rain I could do without.)

Here I am at the Victoria Embankment Gardens, on my way to London Fashion Weekend events. So pretty even on a dreary day!

'Stam' Bag, Marc Jacobs; Shoes, Trouve…and the rest, I can't remember!
