these boots were made for…warm weather?

Fashion knows not of comfort. It’s the reason why we wear 12-inch heels (after braving the cobblestone streets of London in stilettos, I realized we have it easy on the paved roads of the States) or get dressed up in high-waisted shorts and a pussybow blouse on days we’d rather stay in our sweats.

This summer, it’s about sweating it out in boots, boots, and more boots — and where better to draw inspiration from than Coachella?

This year’s music festival featured the classic Western boot that is seen from year to year, but also boasted studded boots, utilitarian lace-ups and ankle boot wedges. Beat the heat by pairing full-foot coverage with as little coverage as possible everywhere else, which is not always solid advice, so take advantage of it while you can. Think short denim shorts and vintage tanks or patterned spandex miniskirts with crop tops.

For those of you who simply can’t take the heat, try out a cut-out boot like the one below:

chic prints.

This season, we’re making up for the neutrals that have been so prevalent lately — not just with bright colors, but also with patterns, patterns, and more patterns. From florals to animal prints and leafy greens to fruits, this summer we really are what we wear.

leopard print lucca couture urban outfitters

As is typical, I spent my weekend on Boston’s Newbury Street. These high waisted leopard-print shorts, accented with sailor-like buttons, caught my eye immediately — if there’s a print you can wear year-round, it’s leopard print. Pair it with a neutral shade, otherwise you’ll go from fierce to just plain savage. Available at Urban Outfitters, $49.

                                         dsquared2 floral dress

Bring the vacation to you! If you’re not afraid to stand out (or possibly blend in with the foliage?), this DSQUARED2 Lauwren dress is definitely an attention-grabber. Available on shopbop.com, $835.

                                            Preen sunset silk blouse

The watercolor-like appearance of this silk Preen blouse captures all the colors of a summer sunset in one shirt. And with so many hues, this top goes with everything. Wear it with a nude skirt, white wide-legged pants or black skinny jeans. Available on net-a-porter.com, $1,310.

                                        jeffrey campbell fruit bowl shoes

Pinkberry’s not the only thing you can top off with fresh fruit! These Jeffrey Campbell Fruitbowl platforms complement those white sundresses that are trending this summer. Available on shopnastygal.com, $158.

a spring in my step

As the stones fall off my favorite embellished Sam Edelmans and my gladiators have been progressively falling apart since that crazy night out in New York City last summer, it is very clearly time for new sandals that’ll go from spring to summer and beyond. Don’t opt for those strappy sandals just yet, though — thicker straps serve as a better transition piece between seasons. Here are some of my faves!

Steve Madden ‘Bethanyy’ Sandal, $59.95

This pair is on trend with the tangerine and the leather is oh-so-soft. The best part? They’re affordable, too!

Luxury Rebel ‘Sasha Three Band’ Sandal, $100

Meet the minimalist’s version of color-blocking. The yellow accents add a spring-y feel to these otherwise neutral sandals. I’m loving the thick strap that off-sets the thinner ones, and the heel strap that extends from the middle of the shoe.

Dolce Vita ‘Marquez’ Laser Cut Sandal, $149

Okay, so these sandals don’t feature the thick straps I’ve been raving about, but the laser-cut leather is impeccable. Not to mention, hello gold hardware! Though patterned, these sandals can be dressed up or down and can adapt to all sorts of looks, whether you’re girly, artsy, casual…etc.

Stuart Weitzman ‘Bounceraf’ Sandal, $275

Go tribal with these beaded Stuarts! Half-shoe and half-sandal, this piece is a great transitional one for days when it’s both hot and cold out.

While you’re waiting for summer to officially arrive, what sandals are you sporting?
